One of the more interesting things about shows like AMC‘s The Walking Dead and HBO‘s Game of Thrones is how the stories change from the written form to the small screen. Characters live, die and go in all kinds of directions that book reading fans never expected. The trick though, is to make those changes work within the framework of the overall story. Both The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones have been handling these changes quite well. Next season in Game of Thrones we’re going to see another character, Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) go off in a different direction from the written page and we’ve got some spoilery details here.

**********SPOILER WARNING*********

IF you clicked through then get ready because the spoilers will be coming fast and furious. Word from Los Siete Reinos has the scoop on Jaime Lannister’s new direction. Thankfully, The Watchers on the Wall translated the news for the rest of us.

When we last left Game of Thrones Jaime had just let Tyrion out of his cell and arranged for Varys to smuggle Tyrion out of the country. There was a big divergence from the books here as the two hug, and then Jaime tells him where to go and how to knock for Varys. In the book there is a lot more going on, but we’re really here to talk about what Jaime does after.

We saw Jaime and Bron training, trying to improve Jaime’s left-handed sword fighting. It looks like the two will continue to hang out together in season 5.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Jerome Flynn filmed on Portstewart Strand, Northern Ireland for several days with characters in Dornish clothing, confirming the men would be headed for the southernmost region of Westeros.

Los Siete Reinos reports that in this scene:

Jaime and Bronn arrive in Dorne to find Myrcella and Prince Trystane kissing. Myrcella is surprised to see her “uncle” Jaime, and Trystane offers his hand in greeting to Jaime, who offers him his left hand instead.

Heated words are then exchanged between Jaime and Trystane, and the younger man tries to draw his sword. Bronn knocks the prince unconscious. After this, the three Sand Snakes enter. A fight between the group ensues, until Areo Hotah shows up and orders everyone to put their weapons down.

A video, pretty crappy video actually, showed up on the Internet around that same time showing Nikolaj Coster-Waldau training for a fight. Note all those long staffs or spears the others are fighting with. That is the classical Dornish weapon.

I’m all for giving Bron more screen time and now that Tyrion is off to sea, teaming Bron with Jaime does seem like a good move. Will this change have any ripple effects for the rest of the season’s story lines? One reason for Jaime traveling to Dorn is most likely because in the books, when Cersei is arrested Jaime is still away from the capital fighting and burns her letter calling him home to defend her. I imagine we’ll get a similar scene while Jaime is in Dorn.
Are you down with these changes? Speaking of changes, which change from the books to the small screen upset you the most?
